Change in our policy
From: Ferretrescueâ„¢ (Original Message) Sent: 28/04/2008 13:59
Due to recent time wasters people requiring us to reserve ferrets will now be asked for a deposit on all ferrets
Some folks dont realise how difficult it can be juggling ferrets around matching them up, giving priority to vet trips, making appointments in our own time only, chasing up phone numbers, to be let down last minute with the feeble excuse "Oh weve got them from somewhere else, but thanks anyway!"
We did not want to put this into practice rather to rely on the goodwill of others, but sadly these days this seems to be lacking

This is Susie Lee with and for The Ferret & Dove Sanctuary, Inc. in Pensacola, Florida.
We had to learn this very lesson many years ago. Once was enough for us, too.
But the person who wanted a ferret 'saved" for them had, at least, come to our home-and-shelter before making their request(and then later claiming they got another ferret from someone else).
So we had to lay down the same "rule"; no ferrets get reserved without a holding deposit. However our ***main preference*** is that the first person who can adopt the ferret that the ferret(s) THEMSELVES like the person, should be able to adopt that ferret without any other conditions like holding deposits from NON-adoptors.
The main reason being that it's not fair to the ferret.
One day a person might come to see the ferrets and change their mind about adopting right then, but not want someone else to get a particularly cute little furkid.
Then the NEXT day, someone else may come in who is ready to adopt that very same furkid and, even better, the furkid is straining to go home with the next-day visitor.
See? , and this has *also* happened.
So it's just not fair to the ferret to come to a shelter and get the ferrets' hopes up and then...leave without them!
